Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, his counterparts in Oyo and Ogun, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and Senator Ibikunle Amosun have all expressed shock, sadness and mourn with the people of Osun State and family of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the first civilian Governor of Osun State and a serving Senator representing Osun West senatorial district who passed on in Osun on Sunday morning at the age of 62.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday expressed shock and sadness over the death of former Governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke. Governor Ambode, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said Adeleke’s death was a huge loss to the entire Southwest region and the Yoruba nation across the world.
“I was deeply shocked to learn of his death this morning. Only last month, he was in Lagos to join us celebrate our party leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He made his mark first as the first civilian Governor of Osun State and then as a Senator, he was one of the most prominent lawmakers who did not shy away from issues that affected Nigerians in general.” Ambode said.
Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, also described the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, as shocking, disheartening and sad. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, in lbadan, on Sunday, the governor said he received the news of Adeleke’s sudden death with shock and disbelief.
Ajimobi said, “When the news filtered in that Senator Adeleke was dead, l was extremely shocked and amazed. I found it very difficult to believe, because he was bubbling with life when l saw him last. Senator Adeleke was one person l admired for being a fine politician who committed his life to the service of humanity and his native Ede land. Right from his days as the first elected governor of Osun State up till his death, he never wavered in stretching his helping hands to the poor and the needy.”
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, described the news of the death of former Governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, as “a rude shock.” The governor, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Adejuwon Soyinka, described the death of Senator Adeleke as “a great loss not just to Osun State but to the entire nation.”
Governor Amosun described the two-time Senator and first elected Governor of Osun State as “an experienced politician and administrator who will be sorely missed by not just his immediate family but also his political family and the nation at large.”
Osun State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has described as a rude shock and great loss, the death. In a statement by the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the Assembly said the death was a great loss to the people of Ede town, Osun West Senatorial District, Osun State, Upper Chamber and the Nigeria in general. The parliament said the death of the federal lawmaker had robbed off the state of one of its grassroot experienced politician and a philanthropist who has entrenched himself in the quest for good governance. Describing the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke as a politician of repute whose existence was significant to the democratic tenet in the state, the statement notes that the role he played as the first executive governor of the state could never be over-emphasized.
In his reaction, the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Yakubu Dogara, described Mr. Adeleke’s death as colossal loss. “On behalf of all members of the House of Representatives, I condole with the Adeleke family, the Senate, government and people of Osun State over this big loss,” said Mr. Dogara.
The royal father said it was saddening that while the Yoruba people were not yet out of the shock of the deaths of Dipo Famakinwa and Olumide Bakare, another big tree fell.
“Our amiable Asiwaju of Ede kingdom, a Senator of the Federal Republic His Excellency Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who had in the past meritoriously served us as the 1st executive Governor of the State of Osun,” the monarch said.
Governors of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, and Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, also expressed shock at the demise of Mr. Adeleke.
Former deputy governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, described the death of Mr. Adeleke, as a great loss not only to the people of Osun State but also to Nigeria’s political class.
“Many of us are still in shock over this sad development,” he stated.
Some of his colleagues, including former Senate President David Mark, Shehu Sani and Rilwan Akanbi among others, have also lamented the loss of the senator.
