The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Mr. Deji Tinubu on Wednesday justified the State Government’s support for the Nigerian female football international, Asisat Oshoala and her pet project, Asisat Oshoala Foundation, describing it (the support) as a recognition of innovativeness and determination to excel.
Tinubu stated that the government recognised how the reigning African Women Footballer of the Year developed her career from the grassroots and rose to stardom as well as her determination to help the girl-child through her foundation.
According to him, the project has the potential to positively project the image of the State, especially through its achievements in the last couple of years, thereby deserving the necessary support from the government.
In his words: “Governor Akinwumi Ambode recognises the contribution Asisat has made to football in the Country and Africa as a whole. More importantly, being an indigene of Lagos also gives us the joy to want to support her and her pet project – The Asisat Oshoala Foundation”.
Tinubu noted that the ongoing Asisat Oshoala/Lagos State Secondary Schools Girls Football Clinic is an ideal programme that can be used as a veritable platform to train and improve natural talents of girls interested in any sporting activity, especially football.
He said that the programme will climax with the launch of the Foundation where the First Lady, the Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode will be present.
